Fo ceral: lock down.
Dude today was just...insane.
The begining of the day was boring nothing happened so I'll go right to the action.
It was during 3rd period when this happened. The period started out as it always does, boring ASTRONOMY PICTURE OF THE DAY + Elizabeth, Kaylee and I were freaking out 'cause Patrick wasn't in class (he usually comes in late). Like 20 minutes after the bell rang I left to use the restroom (my stomach was killing me) and w/e. About 15 minutes after that, we had just finished taking some notes and the class was like "Dude, what are we gonna do for 2 hours in this class :/"
Suddenly, this lady who is always annoyingly loud, gets on the annoucements and starts demanding kids back to class. (During 3rd period is when all the Lunches are held.) It was about middle of B lunch when that annoucement came on. My class, being already in class, was wondering what was up. Kaylee suggested that perhaps a fight had broken out during lunch. I was kinda "Um wtf plz?" about the whole situation.
The lady repeatedily came on and basically yelled into the mike to get kids into classes. She told teachers who would be on their prep periods to help ussure kids into class as fast as they could. After that she annouced we were going into a school Lock Down.
My class was like "....uhhh *looks at Mr. Jorsh*" and he responded, "*SIGH* Everyone in the corner." So we all bundled together in the corner of class and up against the back wall, turned off the lights, and openned one of the shades partly so we could have some light in that room (its very dark in there.) We weren't sure what was going on, but I'm sure we all assumed the worse: Someone in the school was shooting people.
I felt I handled it 10 times better then I had imagined myself handling this situation in my head. I kinda reminded myself of Master Chief, dude, seriously:
When we were sitting on the floor, I was coming up with strageies and escape plans, what could be used as weapons, what would best stop a bullet, where would be the best cover for the class, any kind of worse case scenario; I mean, when I look back on it now I'm pretty impressed with myself (not to sound egotisical).
Examples:
If they tried to get in through the door, we baracade it with the huge science tables we have in the class, then proceed out the window (my class is on the first floor) quickly, quietly, and then make our way to the safest location: The fire department across the street by the soccer field (on the other side of the school basically).
If they tried to get in through the window, I would (seriously) grab a chair and (in a funny way) push it at the guy like a lion tammer, to give the class time to get a table to baracade the windows. Then (if the school was okay inside) leave the classroom and retreat to another class room for safety.
If the windows were locked (unable to get out of) and they were trying to get in through the door, we could hide students in the many cabinets around the room.
It still surprises me that I wasn't scared for my life, but that I was scared for my friends lives. I mean, when it comes down to things like this, you would just assume you would worry about yourself, instead of being a hero.
I was beyond pissed off, though. Just the thought of someone fucking around with a gun, thinking they can just randomly kill people in my school, people I care about, because they wanted to or because some other retarded reason, just totally and completely infrated me. They have no right to take ANYONE'S life. (Most shootings in schools involve the shooter shooting random people: that made me mad too because they're killing people who have nothing to do with w/e they're pissed about. Innocent people in the wrong place and time, and God SMITE me if I was about to let someone I love be victim in a school shooting.)
I had Elizabeth to my left, and Kaylee to my right. As soon as we sat down on the floor, I admiately linked arms with them, in a protective way, but I'm sure they took it in a affectionate manor. I wanted to go make sure my friends were safe, i wanted so badly to take action, help. I felt useless for a minute, but then I realized I could at least help my class mates.
Everyone wanted to know what was up. I wanted more information about the situation, for my stratgies. There were too many snags and surprises that could compromise my plans. I just wanted to make sure I wasnt about to send my friends to their deaths if worse came to worse and we had to follow one of my plays. (As corny as that sounds, thats what i was really thinking)
After about 10 "STUDENTS GET TO YOUR 3RD PERIOD CLASSES" announcements, the lady came on and told us "We are now in lock down, but Tremper is safe. I repeat, we are in lock down but Tremper is safe."
So it was an outside threat that caused us into lock down. No one was shooting in our school, we were, for the most part, safe.
I was still making lists in my mind, organizing groups of "PEOPLE I KNOW FOR SURE WHERE THEY ARE" "PEOPLE I DONT KNOW WHERE THEY ARE" (etc). I just wanted to make sure my friends were all safe. Eliz and I were scared Patrick was in the parking lot and didn't know what was going on. Him i worried about the most since I definately didnt have an idea of where he was.
I was about to start txting the people that I didn't know where they were when the annoucement "DO NOT TXT PEOPLE ABOUT THE SITUATION AT TREMPER WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHATS GOING ON" Mr Jorsh checked and made sure all our phones were in our pockets and not out.
Everyone in class quickly calmed down when they heard that we were for the most part safe. The bad part about my Astronomy class is that it is full of kids who are funny and talkative.
Class: *very still and quiet for once*
Chris: *turns to his friend, whos name slips me* *says quietly but still loud enough for the class to hear* Dude...If I die...I love you, man.
Class: *snorting into their arms, trying to muffle their giggles*
Annoucement: Teachers please check and make sure all your students are wearing their IDs.
Mr. Jorsh: *checks*
Me: *to Kaylee, and says this much louder then intended* They want your ID on so if they find your corpse they can idenify your body.
Class: D8 oh my god Molly!
Me: O_O; Well its true! That's the purpose of Tags in the army! So if they find your body on the battle field, they know who you are!
Outside: POLICE HELICOPTER CAN BE HEARD
Mr. Jorsh:...Its a flying lawnmower!
Class: LOL
Me: If one of the guys comes in here, Mr Jorsh can distract him with his bad jokes while we can get away.
Kaylee: LOL TOTALLY
Scott: *shineing flash light*
Me: Turn that off! You're going to give away our location! GOD! You're compromising our mission.
Friends: *snicker*
Soon the annoucement lady came back on and explained what happened:
"There was a shooting here in the community by Tremper, and some suspects were not aprehended at the time, but they are all in police care now." She goes on to say how, like, proud she was that we got kids into classes so quickly, specially because it was 3rd period with lunch going on.
So then class went on, period times were changed because they needed to fit in the other 2 lunches. As soon as we were in our seats, I took out my phone and txted my brother and Molly (in MA) about what happened.
My brother didn't respond but Molly did almost instantly (: Nice to see SOMEONE cared about me.
I don't have the full details about the whole situation, because I didnt get the sheet that explained what happened (for the parents), so. If anyone I know from school has it, it'd be nice if they could send it to me or something.
No one got hurt (that i know of), but I think we were all kinda shooken up about it. Kind of a relatity check punch in the face, wake up call, that it could happen to us at our school.
